The new year started off poorly when my 84 year old mother in law fell while out walking and broke her hip. She had surgery the next day with excellent results of the fracture repair but had complications with medical issues and ended up being in the hospital for 6 days It was recommended she go to rehab and she refused. At discharge she was total assist with everything. I write this to report that this week my mother in law has returned to driving, walks without a cane on her treadmill and for daily exercise and reports she is almost returned to her previous level of functioning. I think this level of swift recovery speaks to her level of exercise and fitness prior to her fall. This woman was active daily, walking 3-5 miles, follows a strict diet of moderate caloric intake and eats a no salt diet and consumes no alcohol. She is very disciplined and it has served her well with her recovery.
