 Edward W. Younger III, M.D.

Dr. Younger, Medical Director, MRK Medical Consultants, specializes in orthopedic surgery. He has extensive experience in total joint replacement, as well as reconstructive surgery of the knee, hip and shoulder. He  served on the orthopedic trauma staff at Mercy San Juan Medical Center for over 15 years and was instrumental in bringing computer navigation technology to Mercy San Juan. Dr. Younger is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the California Orthopedic Association. Dr. Younger received his Medical Degree from Chicago Medical School where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha.

 

 Michael R. Klein, Jr. M.D.

Dr. Klein specializes in orthopedic surgery and is a founding member and the first Medical Director of Northern California Orthopedic Centers. He was involved with the development of the orthopedic section of the Level II Trauma Center at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael. He is a clinical instructor at University of California, Davis, Medical Center, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons; a member of the American Medical Association and the California Medical Association. Dr. Klein received his Master of Science in Anatomy from Drexel University and his Medical Degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine.

Daniel Anderson, M.D.

Dr. Anderson is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with extensive experience in arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle. He also performs hip and knee replacement surgery, including challenging revision surgery. His medical degree is from the George Washington University in the District of Columbia. He graduated with distinction and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He served his residency at the University of California, Davis and then entered the U.S. Air Force, where he served for four years, including during Operation Desert Storm. From there he was in private practice before working for a large medical group for the past eight years. He is a clinical faculty member at the University of California-Davis School of Medicine and Touro University. He is a contributing author for Operative Orthopaedics, by Michael W. Chapman.




JOINT RECONSTRUCTION SURGERY EXPERT

William L Bargar, M.D. 

Dr. Bargar is a graduate of Ohio State University and completed his Residency at Case Western Reserve University. After Residency he went on to do a course of study at UCLA in Biomechanics and Joint Replacement. He is affiliated with Sutter Community Hospitals and is Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, University of California, Davis. Dr. Bargar is the recipient of many academic awards and honors including:  Computerworld Smithsonian Award for Information Technology in Medicine  and co-recipient, Joseph F Engelberger Robotics Award from the Robotics Industries Association.  He is a member of several International, National and State organizations: including the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty and the International Society for the Study of Custom-Made Prostheses.   He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, a member of the Orthopedic Research Society, The Hip Society, The Knee Society, Academic Orthopedic Society, Western Orthopedic Association, Association for Arthritic Hip and Knee Surgery  and the American Orthopedic Association.  He is a reviewer for Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and The Journal of Arthroplasty, 1988-1996. He has extensively published on total hip arthroplasty and total hip revisions, and Robotics in Hip Surgery. He has also authored  book chapters on Hip Replacement, Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty, Custom Design and Robotics in Hip Surgery.  Dr. Bargar is a nationally renowned orthopedic surgeon available to consult on issues regarding  hip and knee joint replacements.

Ronald Carn, M.S. ,M.D.

Dr. Carn practices in Redding California and is a specialist in hip and knee replacement surgery. He completed a BS in Chemical Engineering at the University of Utah and earned a MS in Chemical Engineering at UC Berkley. Graduating from the University of Utah with a MD degree he completed a residency at SUNY at Buffalo and a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles. Dr. Carn is a member of several professional organizations.

 

Rakesh Donthineni M.D., MBA

Dr. Donthineni completed his Orthopedic Residence at University of California, San Diego and subsequently did a fellowship at Harvard Medical School, in Orthopedic Oncology. He was faculty at the University of Pennsylvania and later at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Donthineni completed a spine fellowship and currently practices int he Bay area as well as in Antioch and Sacramento. His practice is focused on spine surgeries and management, as well as musculoskeletal tumors and general orthopedics.

 

Mauro Giordani, M.D.

Mauro Giordani, MD, practices at the University of California Davis, Medical Center, and is Chief, Adult Reconstructive Service, Department of Orthopedics, UCDMC, Sacramento. A graduate of the University Of Southern California School Of Medicine, he completed his internship and residency training in Orthopedics at USC. Dr. Giordani also completed a Fellowship in Lecco, Italy, Study of Ilizarov methodology & Adult Reconstruction, and a Fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital & Tuft University, in Adult Reconstruction. He is licensed in the State of California and Italy. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

 

Eric Giza, M.D.

Dr. Giza completed his undergraduate work at Haverford College and received his MD from Temple University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic residency at Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency in Boston and a fellowship in sports medicine at Santa Monica Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group. Currently he is the Chief, Foot and Ankle Service at University of California Davis Medical Center. Since 2005 Dr. Giza has served as Associate Team Physician for the United States Soccer Federation. He is a member of American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and various other professional organizations.

  

David Chang, M.D.

David S. Chang, MD., practices general Orthopedics in Berkley, California, and is affiliated with Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. Dr. Chang is a graduate of Stanford University with a BS with high honors in Biology and an MD degree from Wake Forest University, Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center at Winston Salem, North Carolina, in 2004. He is board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Santa Monica Orthopaedics. Dr. Chang provides athletic team coverage as Medical Director for the WTA Berkeley Tennis Club Challenger and since 2006 has been on the Medical Staff of the Tour of California Cycling. He is a consulting team physician for Contra Costa College of Athletics in San Pablo, California and has been involved with providing medical coverage for soccer and rowing teams in the Bay area. He is a member of the California Orthopaedic Association, Society of Tennis Medicine and Science and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is currently Department Chair of Orthopedics at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Summit Campus.

 

David Manske, M.D.

David Manske, MD practices general Orthopedics at Kaiser South Hospital in Sacramento and will retire from that facility in late 2019.  He is a graduate of The University of California Davis where he attended undergraduate, medical school and completed his internship and residency in Orthopedic Surgery.   He is a Clinical Professor at the University of California Davis School of Medicine and the California Northstate University College of Medicine and an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Drexel University College of Medicine. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a Fellow of The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and an active member of Sierra/Sacramento Valley Medical Society.  He was a Regent's Scholar at UCD and was voted outstanding Clinical Faculty Member at UCD in 1987, 1997, 2009 and 2012. He was Kaiser/South Sacramento Most Valuable Physician in 2013.  He served as Chief of Orthopedics for many years at KPMC, South Sacramento. Dr. Manske has multiple other awards and accolades. 

Robert Slater, Jr, M.D.

Dr. Slater received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residencies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and went on to do a fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the University of California, Davis. He is a faculty preceptor for physician assistant students at the UC Davis Family Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Program and a clinical professor in the university’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Slater is the current president of the Western Orthopaedic Association and a chair of the membership committee of the California Orthopaedic Association. He has served on several American Academy of Orthopedic boards and committees and is widely published on issues of the hand and upper extremity. Dr. Slater is in private practice in Folsom, California.

Richard Tortosa,M.D.

Richard Tortosa, MD, specializes in upper extremities which include shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand trauma; both skeletal and soft tissue; arthroplasty of shoulder, elbow wrist and hand; adult skeletal and soft tissue reconstruction, and peripheral nerve surgery.  Board certified in Orthopedics with a subspecialty qualification in hand surgery he completed his Residency at the University of California San Francisco and has an Executive MBA in Healthcare from the University of California Irvine. He has completed fellowships in Upper Extremity, Hand and Shoulders. Dr. Tortosa is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Society of Surgery of the Hand and the International Wrist Investigators.

Jonathan Eastman, MD.

Dr. Eastman is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and is currently Associate Professor of Orthopedics  at the University of California Davis where he completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency. Dr. Eastman completed Orthopedic Traumatology Advanced Clinical training at Washington University Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He is the recipient of several research grants from the AO Trauma Association. Dr. Eastman is widely published in the field of Orthopedic Trauma. He is licensed to practice medicine in the State of California. 



ANESTHESIOLOGY

Michael A. Greenberg, MD.

Dr. Greenberg is a board certified anesthesiologist. He received a BS in Chemistry from Emory University in Atlanta, GA and received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Medical College of Wisconsin.  He completed his Internship and residency in Anesthesiology at Los Angles County/USC Medical Center and has practiced at Metropolitan Anesthesiology Consultants in Sacramento since 1991.  He is a staff anesthesiologist providing all anesthesia services for Dignity Health MSJ.  Since June 2000 he has been a Senior Physician Diplomat at UC Davis Medical Center where he teaches anesthesia residents.

Timothy Lee, M.D.

Dr. Lee is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology. His focus in cardiology stems from his interest in the full range of heart disease—from chest pain to congestive heart failure to acute mycomial inflammation. Since 1994, he has been a practicing cardiologist with the MedClinic of Sacramento. Dr. Lee began his career in 1989 as a staff physician with Kaiser Permanente and was an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Davis, Medical Center. He also worked with the Cardiovascular Care Medical Group as an internist/cardiologist. Dr. Lee received his Medical Degree from George Washington University of Medicine and Health Care Sciences.


Richard J. Axelrod, M.D.

Dr. Axelrod is board certified in internal medicine and cardiology since 1985. His special focus is Interventional Cardiology in which he obtained his board certification in 1999. He is a practicing cardiologist with Northern California Cardiology Associates. Dr. Axelrod is also a Qualified Medical Evaluator and a member of the Medical-Legal committee for the Sacramento-El Dorado Medical Society. He is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology and a member of the California Medical Association. Dr. Axelrod received his Medical Degree from University of Michigan Medical School in 1979.

Dr. Meltz is Owner/Director of Chiropractic Orthopedic Group of El Dorado Hills, California. Peter Murphy, M.D, MRCP, FCCP, B.Sc.

Dr. Murphy is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Subspecialty Boards, and Critical Care Subspecialty Boards.  He received his MD degrees from the University College of Dublin, Ireland, and completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease at State University of New York at Buffalo. He has been in private practice in Carmichael, CA since 1977 and is currently a Clinical  Professor and Assistant Dean Chair, Internal Medicine Department at the California Northstate University College of Medicine in Elk Grove, California. 

Richard Lockmiller, M.D.

Dr. Lockmiller is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana and attended Washington University School of Medicine. He went on to do an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.   He has practiced primary care and urgent care medicine at Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento and the Doctors Center.  He has consulted for Social Security and the Medical Board of California. Richard Blohm, M.D.

Dr. Blohm is a board-certified physician who specializes in emergency care. He currently serves as an assistant clinical professor of emergency medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine and California Northstate University College of Medicine. He practices at Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center, where he is a member of the quality review committee. He also works one month per year at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, as an attending emergency room physician. Dr. Blohm graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at UC Davis Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate degrees with honors at the University of California, Berkeley. Dan Field, M.D.

Dr. Field practiced for 30 years as an ABEM certified emergency physician at Kaiser facilities in the Sacramento area. During that time, he served the California Medical Board as both an expert reviewer and consultant, Sacramento County as a deputy reserve officer providing medical expertise to the SED (SWAT equivalent ), Clinical Faculty at U.C. Davis and most recently as a medical school instructor at CNSU. Eric C. Disbrow, M.D.

Laura Machado, M.D.

Eric Morse, M.D.

Dr. Morse completed his undergraduate work at Stanford University and graduated from UCLA Medical School. He completed both his internship and residency training in general surgery at UCDMC. Presently he is a general and trauma surgeon at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael and is a clinical faculty member at U.C. Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Morse is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, American Board of Surgery, and holds certifications in endoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic herniorrhaphy, laparoscopic bowel and appendectomy and advanced laparoscopic bowel/colon, rectal, and gastric procedures. LIFE CARE PLANNING

Stephen Mann, M.D.

In addition to 30 years experience in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation medicine, Dr. Mann has performed more than 100 independent medical examinations for both plaintiff and defense counsel, including cases of medical malpractice and catastrophic injury. Dr. Mann is a featured speaker at the annual Internatinal Symposium for Life Care Planning, and lectures plantiff and defense counsel organizations when requested.

Dr. Mann completed the University of Florida Life Care Planning curriculum and became a certified life care planner in 2012. Dr. Mann will work as a physician-partner with you and your life care planning representative(s) to ensure that the plan is comprehensive, while assuring adequate and appropriate patient services and a strong medical-legal foundation. In addition to Life Care Planning Services, Dr. Mann will continue to offer the full range of Medical-Legal services he has performed for the past 20 years, as reflected in the Services Provided section. Dr. Mann is certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and is licensed to practice medicine in Arizona , Nevada and California. METALLURGICAL ENGINEER

 

Mr. Raggio is a licensed Metallurgical Engineer in the State of California. He earned his B.S. degree in metallurgical engineering from California State Polytechnic University of San Luis Obispo. HIs professional career began with Bechtel Corporation working in the welding and non-destructive testing disciplines in the energy field. He subsequently moved into the orthopedic implant field and now has over 40 years of experience including the design, manufacturing , sales and marketing of orthopedic implants. His work in orthopedics includes a patent for bone in-growth surfaces, and initial designs of the first custom titanium "Trim-Flange" hemispherical pelvic replacement and the development of the first forged titanium alloy hip stem marketed in the United States. He has extensive experience in the custom orthopedic implant market having personally designed over two thousand custom implants for hip, knee and shoulder. He is currently the Principal Engineer at Raggio Metallurgical Group providing consulting and failure analysis services to a variety of industries.

Sandra Shefrin, M.D.

Dr. Shefrin is board certified in both neurology and internal medicine. She has been practicing neurology and working as a expert medical witness in the Bay Area for more than twenty-five years. She was an attending neurologist at UCSF-Mt. Zion Hospital for fifteen years. She has practiced in Marin County since 2006 and was previously Chief of the Department of Neurology at Marin General Hospital. She has extensive experience in evaluating and managing the full range of neurological conditions, including but not limited to head and neck injuries, traumatic brain injuries, whiplash, headache, back pain, dizziness, cognitive decline, memory loss, seizures, PTSD, neuropathies, strokes, tumors, and multiple sclerosis. She is also an expert in Parkinson’s Disease and movement disorders.

Dr. Shefrin completed her neurology residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. She also completed an internal medicine residency at McGill University. Currently, she is in private practice and is a consulting neurologist at Marin General Hospital (Marin Health).

 

Howard Slyter, M.D.

Dr. Slyter, a Board Certified Neurologist, received his BA from Harvard College, his MD from Case Western Reserve University and completed his Neurology Residency at Stanford University where he was a Fellow in Pediatric Neurology. A member of the American Academy of Neurology, California Medical Association and the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society, Dr. Slyter practiced at Kaiser in the Sacramento area.

Kamran Sahrakar, M.D.

Dr. Sahrakar is a board certified Neurosurgeon and a graduate of the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and completed his Neurosurgery residency at the University of California, Davis, in Sacramento, Ca.  He was Assistant Chief Department of Neurosurgery and Co-Chief of Radio- surgery at Kaiser Permanente and served on the faculty at Kaiser. Paul Kaloostian, M.D.

Dr. Kaloostian is a Board Certified Neurosurgeon practicing in the LA area. He graduated from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.  He completed a residency at the University of New Mexico Medical Center for Neurological Surgery where he excelled in Cranial and Spinal Surgery, including Neurological-Trauma.  He completed a Complex Spine and Spinal Oncology  instructorship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Kaloostian is a prolific author, researcher,  and scientist having authored over 70 peer reviewed manuscripts, 100 book chapters and 12 peer reviewed scientific textbooks.  He is licensed in California and in the process of becoming licensed in Nevada. He is available for exams in both states. Robert P. Freed, M.D.

Dr. Rabin specializes in the latest medical and surgical glaucoma care including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) as well as the latest cataract techniques and premium lens technology including multifocal lens implantation, laser vision correction, and astigmatism correction. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Rabin completed the Accelerated Physician Scientist program graduating magna cum laude from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and completed medical school at Albany Medical College.  Dr. Rabin studied retinal stem cells and designed an in-vitro model of macular degeneration. Dr. Rabin completed his internship at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, New York, where he treated a wide variety of complex eye diseases and was selected to be chief resident. Thanks to his well-rounded training, Dr. Rabin also manages numerous other ocular conditions including diabetes, macular degeneration, dry eye, inflammatory conditions of the eye, optic nerve and visual field disorders. He went on to complete a fellowship in glaucoma and complex cataract surgery at the prestigious Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Kearns specializes in head and neck surgery and is affiliated with Sacramento ENT, Inc. in Sacramento, California. Dr. Lee received his bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with honors from Stanford University and graduated from the University of California Davis School of Medicine where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his Surgical internship at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center where he also completed his Urology residency. He then completed a fellowship in Urological Oncology with emphasis on minimally invasive and robotic techniques at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, CA.
